SummaryThe property feud in the Mahajan family refuses to die.

The property feud in the Mahajan family refuses to die with Prakash Mahajan, the younger brother of late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan, calling for equitable distribution of the family’s 3.5 acre ancestral land in Osmanabad. On Monday, Prakash Mahajan, the only surviving Mahajan brother, locked up a public hall that was constructed on the land by an educational trust.

“Tapasvi Charitable Trust, which has no legal right on our ancestral land handed over 10,000 sq ft to another trust Samarth Charitable Trust. They had constructed a hall on that land and today I have locked the place and repossessed the area,” Prakash Mahajan told The Indian Express from Osmanabad.

The land was handed over by Pramod Mahajan during his life time to Tapasvi Charitable Trust, which is run by Pramod Mahajan’s family members including his wife Rekha Mahajan.

Prakash Mahajan now claims that since it is an ancestral property, he wanted it to be distributed among the family. However, the distribution never took place. “I am not against anyone, I just want that the property to be distributed equitably,” he said, adding that the Trust had no power to hand over the said piece of land to Samarth Charitable Trust.

Tapasvi Trust presently runs a medical college in the name of Pramod Mahajan’s father on part of the land. Mahajan claimed that he was willing to strike a compromise with the family of his elder brother. But the family did not want to divide the land.

Prakash, a resident of Aurangabad Prakash, had a stint with Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena which he left during last elections. He subsequently joined the Shiv Sena and left that too.
