The Kerala High Court on Thursday ordered a CBI probe into the mysterious murder of a supari gang leader, Happy Rajesh, who was the main suspect in the attack on a journalist in Kollam last year.

Two Kerala police officers in the rank of deputy superintendent — Santhosh Nair and Abdul Rasheed — have been arrested in the case of the attack on the journalist on charges of conspiracy. The state police had found that the duo had planned the attack on the scribe to take revenge for his reports, which the officers found damaging to Nair’s reputation. The supari gang was hired by Nair.

The state crime branch had charge-sheeted the accused. The high court order for CBI probe came after Rajesh’s wife Bindu moved the court, saying that the investigation by the Kerala Police would not be honest considering that two officials were arrested in the attack of ‘Mathrubhumi’ scribe V B Unnithan. The petitioner had alleged that those involved in the attack on Unnithan had killed her husband.

Rajesh was found dead in an autorickshaw under suspicious circumstances days after the journalist was attacked.
