Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar along with a group of industry leaders on Tuesday met Finance Minister P Chidambaram to push for the sanction of Rs 5,744 crore for the metro line into the key Bangalore tech corridor as part of the second phase of the Metro rail project.

Infosys executive co-chairman Kris Gopalakrishnan, Biocon chairperson Kiran Mazumdar Shaw and Manipal Global Education head T V Mohandas Pai were among the industry leaders who met the finance minister.

Chidambaram said the meeting was on the second phase of the metro project. Industry sources said the meeting was to Ďimpress upon him the need for early approvalí of an 18.82-km-long new line for the metro to service Electronic City.

The new East-West line, R V Road-Bommasandra line costs about Rs 5,744 crore. The overall project cost of

Rs 26,405 crore has been approved by a high-power committee and the Karnataka government and now awaits Finance Ministry nod.
