New Delhi: Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa has been asked by the party brass to extend his stay in the capital by a day, indicating that the party is finding it extremely difficult to make the warring camps in the state BJP agree to an amicable solution. The CM met senior party leader LK Advani at his residence where M Venkaiah Naidu, Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj and Ananth Kumar were also present. “There’s some forward movement, but it’s inch-by-inch progress,” said a central BJP leader.
The chief minister had said on Thursday that “an amicable solution to the crisis would be worked out by late Thursday and that leaders of both the camps would address a joint press conference to announce this”. Dissident leader Janardhan Reddy, who has been leading the campaign against the CM, meanwhile, left for Hyderabad to hold consultations with rebel legislators, following which he is expected to come back to the capital on Saturday. Reddy met senior BJP leaders Sushma Swaraj and M Venkaiah Naidu.
State BJP president Sadananada Gowda claimed said that “Reddy had been told to go to Hyderabad and convince his supporter-MLAs about the compromise formula, and that senior leaders Swaraj and Naidu said that everything has been resolved”.
While Reddy stuck to his original stand that “he won’t meet Yeddyurappa,” and that “Venkaiah Naidu, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, and Ananth Kumar were his leaders,” for the first time today, he said, “the crisis in the state would be resolved in two-three days”. There were reports earlier in the day that “Janardhan had secured the resignations of the rebel MLAs, to mount pressure on the party leadership to oust Yeddyurappa”.
Yeddyurappa, meanwhile, confirmed the possibility of the exit of principal secretary to the CM, VP Baligar, as per the “request of the Reddy brothers”. The Reddy brothers had demanded Baligar’s scalp, among other issues. The CM is likely to remove Shobha Karandlaje, and induct Speaker Jagadish Shettar into the Cabinet. A coordination committee, consisting of representatives of both camps—that will have state as well as central leaders —is also envisaged for smooth functioning of the state government. Yeddyurappa on Friday said that “he was ready to accept some of the demands of the Reddy brothers”. He also reiterated that he had been assured by the party brass that he would continue as the chief minister and that he would complete his full term of five years....
