New Delhi, July 18: : Missile scientist APJ Abdul Kalam, supported by most of the political parties barring the Left, was on Thursday declared elected as the 12th President.
Mr Kalam secured 89.58 per cent of the total vote value of 10,30,250 in an electoral college comprising 4,896 legislators, including 776 MPs of both the Houses of Parliament, while his rival Captain Lakshmi Sahgal of the INA fame, put up by the Left parties, got 10.42 per cent. Of the 4,785 legislators who voted, 174 votes were found invalid.

| Islamabad, July 18: Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf on Thursday felicitated Dr APJ Abdul Kalam on his election as the next President and hoped to work with him to establish tension-free bilateral relations, state-run PTV said. In a message, he said he hopes to work with Mr Kalam for the establishment of tension-free relations between Pakistan and India. (PTI) |
