Judges ordered to hear prisoner grievances

In an attempt to address the grievances and complaints of jail inmates, the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday ordered all District and Sessions Judges, who visit jails, to deal with the complaints of inmates during their visits. The Court has also made it clear that the Judges, of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh will open the complaint boxes, that have already been installed at jails, to help aggrieved inmates. The directions were passed after an application was moved by advocate Navkiran Singh. Earlier, the High Court had directed all jail officials in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh to install the complaint boxes on the prison premises.
