John Abraham and Shoojit Sircar's second venture Madras Cafe, released amidst controversy, to a good response on August 23.
Though the movie got mixed reviews, it has been doing well at the box office.
Indian Express' critic Shubhra in her review gave the movie three stars and said: "For the most part, I enjoyed Madras Café."
Noted film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted the official figures. “#MadrasCafe Fri 5.17 cr, Sat trends suggest around 7 cr. May even cross 7 cr. Biz on the rise and how. Power of strong word of mouth!"
Madras cafe has performed well overseas collecting AED 1.3 million in the UAE and other Gulf countries.

In canada and USA the film is expected to cross $ 200,000.

The film is based on the events leading up to Rajiv Gandhi's assassination. Madras Cafe also stars Rockstar actress Nargis Fakhri as a war correspondent.
