Jeevan TV Gets Ready To Join Malayalam Channel Ranks

Kochi:: The fifth Malayalam TV channel, Jeevan TV, is likely to start telecasting from July 15. Channel managing director PC Cyriac told mediapersons here that the channel would be a 24-hour one with emphasis on news and current affairs, information and education. Entertainment will be second priority.

The channel is promoted by the Jeevan Telecasting Corporation Ltd, a public limited company, which already has programmes worth Rs 4 crore ready.

As part of preparations for the launch, the channel has readied two studios, one solely for news and the other of other programmes.

The studios will be inaugurated by revenue minister KM Mani and noted film director and

Kerala Chalachitra Akademi chairman Adoor Gopalakrishnan Today.

The company has so far invested Rs 25 crore in its first phase. The money has been raised from the public. The company has around 6,000 share-holders.

The channel plans to have associations of its viewers called ‘Jeevan Clubs’, where its shareholders too would have active participation.

These will be grassroots level societies, which will provide feedback about the channel programmes.

Former chief minister PK Vasudevan Nair will inaugurate the first of these clubs.

The channel plans to break even in two to three years. While the channel’s income will be from advertisements, the channel will place certain restrictions and will not accept advertisements that are against the culture.

Mr Cyriac said the channel had already started receiving advertisements.

About the programme mix, Mr Cyriac said the thrust would be on news and current affairs programmes.

The channel would be based on digital technology and would have family entertainment programmes, he added.
