Jeera prices fell by 0.68 per cent to Rs 14,680 per quintal in futures market today after speculators trimmed positions largely on reports of favourable weather conditions in producing states.

Sluggish demand in the spot market also put pressure on the spice prices at futures trade.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in March softened by Rs 100, or 0.68 per cent, to Rs 14,680 per quintal, with an open interest of 14,616 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in October declined by Rs 75, or 0.51 per cent, to Rs 14,745 per quintal in 3,387 lots.

Marketmen said, off-loading of positions by speculators due to favourable weather conditions and a higher area under cultivation, weighed on the jeera prices at futures trade.
