Japan jobless rate edges up to 4.2% in December

Japan's jobless rate edged up in December, while the availability of jobs improved, government data showed on Friday.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 4.2 percent from 4.1 percent in November, compared with economists' median forecast of 4.1 percent, Internal Affairs ministry data showed on Friday.

The jobs-to-applicants ratio rose to 0.82 in December from 0.80 the previous month, compared with the median forecast of 0.80.

The number of new job offers rose 0.5 percent in December from the previous month and was up 5.2 percent from a year earlier.
