Los Angeles: The public memorial of 'King of Pop' Michael Jackson will be held at Staples Centre here on Tuesday, a publicist for the family said.

The memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. (local time) in the arena and 11,000 tickets will be distributed to Jackson's fans for free, Sunshine firm, representatives for the pop star's family said.

Details related to the memorial including how the fans may register for the tickets will be announced at a press conference, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The venue which is owned by AEG Live, the organizers of Jackson's comeback gigs at London's O2 arena, has a seating capacity of 20,000 and is expected to be packed to the full.

Staples centre is also the site of Michael Jackson's last rehearsal for his comeback shows.

Jackson died last Thursday of a suspected cardiac arrest weeks before his much awaited comeback.

Reports suggest that AEG may put up giant screens outside the venue for the thousands who will not be able get inside as the event is expected to attract a massive gathering of pop star's fans.

Meanwhile, Sunshine had asked for the public's patience as the family sorted through details of the service.

"There's a lot of sensitivities, and everyone should respect that," Sunshine said.

Randy Phillips, chief executive of AEG Live, the promoter behind Jackson's 50 concerts that were to take place from July 13 in London, said the ultimate decision about the date and format of a memorial lay with Jackson's mother, Katherine.

The memorial is likely to be one of the biggest events and the law enforcement deployment would involve thousands of officers as there is no clarity over the turnout.

Earlier, reports had suggested that Jackson's public viewing would be held at his fantasy themed Neverland ranch but the pop star's family later cancelled the plan.

It is amazing to me that my heart can feel so broken at the death of a total stranger, yet he was very much a part of everyone's life at some time or another.I have so many mixed and confusing feelings over this situation, but one thing i am sure of is that Michaell was undoubtably the most talented and the best performer on this earth.My heart aches for his family and our loss.Rest in peace my friend....you were very loved.

the person who sang "heal the world" couldnt heal himself from taking drugs. its very unfortunate that all good people will not be spared neither from god nor from cruel people of the society. The same world recognise the person after the death for his contribution to entire human race.MJ u were a star whn u wr alive, and still u r a star, may ur soul rest in peace. ull be remembered for ever

There are a lot of drugs in our houses all over the world. there are prescription drug in my families houses. they are there because we are not taking them. A Dr. prescribes them , you buy them but you feel you don't need them because you know and feel yo don't need them.Let's all look @ it so we can understand. Even somebody far in zimbabwe can understand.

It's unfortunate that michael jacksson's work and contribution to society is recognised after he has died. Poor man will never(land) know how much of a contributer he was to this world and that above, in his grave. long live MJ.Rest now.
