: Sandip Soparrkar
Dancer and Choreographer
What does success mean to you?
It means being happy in a place, irrespective of money or wealth. As long as there is peace of mind, there is nothing else to worry about. Success brings in a positive aura around you and that is, to me, the mark of success.
What is you are biggest strength?
Even as a teenager whenever I hit the dance floor, everybody used to vacate the stage and stand in one corner to watch me. That’s when I realised that I could dance well and decided to take it up as a hobby. Later, I followed it with greater zeal, as it was one of my biggest strengths. It gave me my individuality. I also try not to take success or failure too seriously. I believe this is how it was meant to be. It is good to fly high, but to dance I need to stay close to the ground. So, I always try to be grounded.
What works as a stress buster for you?
I don’t think I use dance as a stress buster. I do a lot of other things like working out in the gym, boxing and practicing martial arts. But none of them is a means of getting de-stressed. I do it because I want to do it, not because I want to get away from it. My only stress buster is sleeping for 10 to 12 hours.
God to you is…
I don’t believe in one particular God as Krishna, Shiva, Ram .... I belong to a South Indian family and we worship Lord Venkatesh. But that doesn’t make me ritualistic. Instead, I believe in the power that always guides us. I do believe in karma. We get rewarded or punished for our deeds, good or bad, right here — on this earth.
