SummaryDigital high-definition movies make debut in the country

Apple Inc has finally brought a vast array of digital content to India, with the launch of iTunes Store on Tuesday. Users will be able to buy music from Indian and international artistes as the company introduced over 20 million songs through the Store. Apple said the service was launched in 56 countries on Tuesday, but users in only four countries (Russia, Turkey, India and Indonesia) will be able to buy or rent movies.

In a statement, Apple said, “Movie fans can choose from a wide selection of films available for rent or purchase from the iTunes Store, with many available in HD, from major studios including 20th Century Fox, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, The Walt Disney Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures, as well as leading local distributors.” Music on the iTunes Store comes in iTunes Plus, Apple’s DRM-free format (with 256 kbps AAC encoding).

iTunes will allow users download previously purchased iTunes music to all iOS devices at no additional cost. The company said new music purchases can be downloaded to all iOS devices. Users can transfer music bought from other sources to their iOS devices using iTunes Match, a service that stores music in Apple iCloud. Customers can gain access to the store on iTunes 11, which is available for free for Mac and Windows at apple.com/in/itunes.

Apple said iTunes Store purchases require a valid credit card with a billing address.
