



Pune, June 24: Netafim Irrigation India Pvt Ltd has launched the Netafim Irrigation University in Pune for providing training in the area of drip irrigation and fertigation to the Indian farmers and field professionals.
Israel-based Netafirm is among the biggest manufacturer of drip irrigation systems and the parent company runs a similar university in Israel. Zvi Feler, managing director, Netafim India, said Netafim created drip irrigation in Israel 39 years ago and has since then been training people in this discipline.
“In India we have implemented this system of training in 2003 and so far thousands of farmers all over India have already been trained by us. We are now formalizing it as Netafim Irrigation University, as we feel that drip irrigation in India is expanding at the fastest pace compared to any other country worldwide and there is a dire need of trained professionals for effective implementation of drip irrigation systems in the country.” Netafim India offers the complete irrigation and agronomical support to the farmers.
Apart from farmers, the university would train Netafim India’s staff, dealers, government officials, students of agricultural universities, NGO representatives and bankers in drip irrigation and effective fertilization through drip irrigation. Girish Kanole, general manager (business development and training), Netafim India has been appointed as in charge of the university. The university will have five faculty members drawn from various disciplines of agronomy, agricultural engineering and management science.
