The head of Iran’s judiciary lashed out at President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Wednesday, the latest salvo in an escalating political conflict that has undermined much of the President’s political clout.

Over on Ahmadinejad’s letter on Evin prison visit denial, Ayatollah Sadeq Larijani —the head of the judiciary branch — on Wednesday said that the President does not understand his constitutional powers. “(Ahmadinejad’s) letter is the result of incorrect understanding of the responsibilities of the three branches of power and the limits of duties,” the semi-official ISNA news agency quoted Larijani as saying.

Addressing judicial authorities, Larijani said Ahmadinejad does not control the judiciary. “This assumption that the president has supervision over other branches of power is totally wrong,”he said.
