Toyako, July 9: : Inflation is the world's greatest economic threat today and is out of control in some emerging economies, IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn said on Wednesday.

"The inflation question is probably the biggest threat today," Strauss-Kahn said on the sidelines of the G8 leaders' summit in Hokkaido, northern Japan.

He added that there was a need for monetary tightening.
