Inflation our only flaw: PM

In his speech on the concluding day of the Chintan Shivir, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh used strong words to condemn the ‘inhuman behaviour’ of Pakistan Army on the LoC and said that such violations will not be taken lightly.

“There has been inhuman behaviour on the LoC by Pakistan and we are constantly reviewing our relations with Pakistan. We have made it clear that this incident may badly affect our bilateral relations. Whatever actions we will take, we will do with deliberations. We want friendship with Pakisan, but for that they will also have to try. Without a reciprocal attempt from their side it is not possible just because we make an attempt.”

Singh conceded that the UPA government failed to curb inflation and called it their ‘only flaw’. “The only flaw is our record is inflation. The rate of inflation rate during the UPA government’s tenure over the past eight years has been more than what we wanted, but that is because of the increase in international crude oil prices during this period. Another reason for this inflation is that our government has significantly increased the Minimum Support Prices for farmers’ crops. But now we have to take some concrete steps to bring down inflation, especially in 2013-14,” he said.

The PM admitted that the government’s communication strategies have probably not been very effective and there is a need to reach the government’s achievements to the masses. Singh asked the party to communicate the success of the government to
