



Chandigarh, Jul 17: Chandigarh based manufacturer and exporter of active pharmaceutical ingredients, Indswift Pharmaceuticals has announced its foray into the education sector.
To begin with, the company has established a school of pharmacy and nursing at Rajpura in Punjab. With a planned investment layout of over Rs 1,000 crore, the company aims to develop four deemed universities in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Uttarakhand within a period of next five years.
All the projects in the educational arena will be looked after by the Swift Fundamental Research and Education Society (SFRES), promoted by the Rs 1,100 crore
Expanding upon this, Gopal Munjal, managing director, IndSwift Pharmaceuticals told FE, "We started with pharmacy institute as the demand-supply gap for the BPharm and MPharm degree holders has widened over the years. About 40 acres of land have already been acquired at Rajpura-Ambala highway for the project. ssInitial investment in setting up these two colleges has been to the tune of Rs 25 crore.”
He further added, “The total area is expected to go upto 100 acres over which colleges for engineering, hotel management, architecture, business management, medical and journalism will be developed.
Swift School will be offering a four-year degree programme in B.Pharm. that has been approved by All India Council of Technical Education and the government of Punjab, and is affiliated to Panjab Technical University.
Efforts will be to attain the status of a full-fledged deemed university within 3-4 years and by that time the investment in Rajpura is expected to touch Rs 250 crore.”
The Company is scouting for space in other three states as well. Munjal further added, “We are looking at options in Haryana near Panchkula, Mewat and Karnal to set up a technical university.
