Collection of indirect taxes — excise, customs and service tax — stood at about R2,69,100 crore during the first seven months of 2013-14 fiscal, up 5.3% from the same period last fiscal year.

Excise collection during the April-October period was R89,600 crore, while realisation from customs stood at R98,000 crore, an official said.

Service tax collection, which has become a new focus area for revenue officials, stood at R81,500 crore during the period.

In October, total indirect tax collection was R42,520 crore, up 7.5% from the same month last year.

The Centre has set indirect tax collection target of R5.65 lakh crore for 2013-14, up from R4.73 lakh crore last fiscal.
