Union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Tuesday said that his ministry will be launching indigenously developed diabetes-testing strips, that will cost just Rs 4.
"This strip will make diabetes screening affordable in the country. This indigenous strip is very cheap. It will cost just Rs 4 and will replace the strips that are currently costing Rs 35 in the market. One week later I will be launching these strip," Azad said while addressing NRI doctors at a summit organised by American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) at Ahmedabad on Saturday.
He said that the Health research department under the ministry was given the job to develop these strips.
