New Delhi: India is likely to allow duty-free imports of raw sugar for domestic sales within two weeks, the farm minister, Sharad Pawar, said on Tuesday.
"The government will allow duty-free raw sugar imports in the next 10 to 15 days. Production figures are not very encouraging," Pawar said.
Currently, duty-free imports are allowed only if the imported raw sugar is refined and shipped out again. The proposed changes would allow a company to sell sugar locally.
