: doubled in size in recent years. Construction firms that specialise in insulating buildings to save air conditioning or heating costs are crying out for skilled workers all over the world.

What will be the green jobs opportunities in the next 5 to 10 years?

To hold climate change to 2o C by 2050 we have to start cutting green house gas emissions now. The biggest change to existing production consumption and employment patterns must come in the richer already-industrialised countries where emissions per person far exceed those in the developing world. The new report expects a net gain in employment from this process of adjustment but that includes losses as well as gains. We have to manage the transitions fairly to make sure they are politically sustainable.

Rapidly emerging economies like India need to start planning for a development trajectory that is low on carbon, has intense job opportunities and will help reduce poverty. Investments in enterprise made now will be around for decades. We need to make sure they are not emitting high volumes of green house gases over their lifetime. We also need to adapt to climate changes that are already underway and cannot be reversed....
