Hyderabad: India needs at least five lakh qualified project managers in future to finish 591 projects being carried out in the country, a research by Project Management Institute (PMI) said.

As many as 591 projects each worth more than Rs 100 crore were being executed in the country and it required a great number of project managers in order to finish them on time, Managing Director (MD), PMI, Raj Kalady said today.

The initial estimates of Rs 5.25 lakh crore for the total projects have escalated to Rs 5.85 lakh crore due to lack of proper project management, Kaladi, who is here to announce the PMI’s all India conference to be held from November 13, said.

Former MD of Maruti Udyog Ltd will be the key note speaker in the conference while NASSCOMM president Som Mittal and ISRO chairman Dr K Radha Krishnan are among others who would attend the conference.

Kalady said the PMI has developed 12 best applications of project management on the lines of world’s best practices.

The institute was negotiating with some of educational institutions to offer scholarships to students pursuing project management course, he said.
