The chairman of selection committee Krishnamachari Srikkanth today said that he won't have anything to say if senior batsman VVS Laxman decides to call time on his international career.

Speculations have been on about whether Laxman will be the first among senior players to get the axe after scoring only 102 runs in six innings at a dismal average of 17.

"Next Test series is in September. We do not know what will happen at that time. If Laxman decides to retire, I cannot say anything. But we will take stock of the situation only in September," said Srikkanth .

Incidentally, in September, the board's AGM is scheduled and Srikkanth along with Raja Venkat, Narendra Hirwani and Surendra Bhave will have to make away for new look selection panel.

However Srikkanth did express huge disappointment on Indian team's dismal performance Down Under terming it as a result of collective batting failure.

"We are totally devastated. It is quite disappointing in the manner we have played in Australia. Now sitting in Chennai, it is difficult for me to pinpoint a particular reason as to what went wrong. Definitely our batting has failed consistently throughout the series," Srikkanth told the mediapersons after announcing the team for the upcoming tri-series in Australia.

Srikkanth was found wanting when scribes sought an elaborate explanation of causes that led to the team's failure. His answer was an inevitable one.

"It is the same problem that we had during the England series. In the last two series, the batsmen have struggled to find form.

Laxman's and Gambhir's reaction

It is not the prerogative of Laxman or Dravid or Tendulkar or Gambhir or any one else who does not deliver goods to continue playing. If they do not retire, they deserve to be shown the door. What temerity when they play for loads of money and not perform?

Srikkanth is correct

Srikkanth and his team put together a good team and this chance of life time. Unfortuantely things didn't work for India. A team tend to win only in their soil but not on foreign land. This team gave one of the worst performance in Aust as the first and third matches can be easily won by Indians. The bowlers done their job not the batsmen. Ashwin should have played for the Perth match and he should be included in Adelaide. Remember, he bowled well as well as scored runs

Don't you have the guts to prepare lively wickets in India?

"I don't think that too much of a post-mortem would lead us anywhere," Is that so?! Why don't you try preparing a few sporting wickets in India & bite the bullet till TeamIndia gets good at pace, bounce & swing. This doesn't seem to figure in your "sorrow" at all! Does it take a genius to figure this out. Do this first & then watch the results, in stead hiding behind the cloak of dull wickets!
