IAF airlifts 405 stranded passengers in J-K

With weather conditions improving, the Indian Air Force today airlifted 405 Kargil-bound stranded passengers from Jammu and Srinagar to Leh in Ladakh region.

While 180 stranded passengers were airlifted by IAF's IL-76 from winter capital Jammu to Leh today, another 225 passengers were airlifted from the Srinagar airfield, Officiating PRO (Defence) S N Acharya said.

With these, a total number of 747 stranded passengers have been airlifted by IAF in past two days, he said.

The state government had said that special IAF sorties will be arranged for the stranded passengers of Leh region, which was cut-off due to heavy snowfall.
