New Delhi: "I was not going by a truck to the United States," said Home Minister P Chidambaram to a query on his scheduled visit to Washington, evoking peals of laughter.

Chidambaram was addressing the media on the ongoing truckers' stir as also the strike in the petroleum sector when a scribe asked him whether his trip to the US has been cancelled.

"I was not going by a truck to the United States," the minister said in a lighter vein but added that his visit to the US has been cancelled as he was dealing with the situation arising from the strikes.

During the visit, Chidambaram was expected to share evidence with the US authorities on the role of Pakistan-based terrorists in Mumbai attacks.

"The more significant development is that Pakistan has admitted that Mohd Ajmal Amir Kasab is a Pakistani citizen," Chidambaram said.

"There is no ATF (aviation turbine fuel) too," a scribe quipped. The petroleum sector strike has hit flight operations.

OSOA has given strike notice 3 months before to the Government and the strike was deferred three times because the minister of Heavy Industies and the Ministry of Petroleum has orally given the assurances theat the problems will be looked into. What the Government has done for 3 full months. Now when the strike has hit the Govt has appointed the committee. Why can't they do it before. Now the oil officers has been stamped as Terrorists and Desh Drohi inspite of lifting the economy of the nation. ONGC is giving money from their profits to BPCL and HPCL who are incurring the losses because of Subsidy. This profit has to be shared by the employees of ONGC. Whether the govt will ask Reliance to give subsidy to the indians or whether they will put bp ESMA and NSA on reliance to share the subsidy from their exporting units. Jai Hind. I am and Indian and I will die as an Indian not lie the politicians.

Why are subsequent governments not planning to have market driven prices for fuel? I think the next government should have a plan where at the end of 7-10 years the subsidy on Oil is zero by the end. This would also mean rationalization of duty and taxes on fuel.

i would like to thank the whole market for oil including the oil producing nations have lowered the prices of oil from 140$ to 36$. this means a lot to people who dont have a lot of money because oil prices effect each and everyything including food. But the government of india is still making fool of people and looting them of their hard earned money in the name of protectionism. I that wasnt the case and the people of india could ask the government to lower the prices so that they can also enjoy the benefits of lower oil prices.

Hye Kapil, who is bothered about the price of petrol or diesel. Sitaram Yechury and Karat used to bark at times. Now they are also not there. Till general public rise up against these atrocities, the government will not take any action and India is not going to improve

Oh..Thats all...Strikes and Satyam comes for media...and the Govt. As usual, the terror issue will be in the corner...There are many ministers...who sits idle in the cabinet..why dont Dr.Manmohan singh ask them to work for strikes..instead, they point the guy who always work for some important issues... Antony should work for Defence instead he worked for congress internal issues... Pranab mukherjee should work for foreign issues instead worked for solving the alliance issues... So, no body is doing their work.. Shibusoren and Amarsingh does their work correctly to bring the culprits as politicians.. and if these kind of politicians are law makers of India..then, how come the laws can be strignent??
