: Hariprasad Chaurasia, Flautist
On success…
Life is a learning process. Everyday I am learning something or the other. I do not consider myself to be successful. I am still a student and I enjoy being a student without the complicacies of being successful. The very word ‘success’ brings in a sense of completeness that prevents me from learning more and achieving perfection in whatever I do.
On the choice of his instrument…
Flute, the musical instrument that I play, is the oldest instrument not only of India but also of the world. Lord Krishna, the divine creator, played it. Playing the flute makes me feel that there is a super power in my mind … it lifts up my spirits and endows me with the power to be innovative.
On music… Music is a spiritual aspect that reigns in India. And classical music is the origin of all music. Just like sun and moon cannot be compared to any other source of light, neither can’t be classical music — it is pure and pristine. It is a source of joy, of power, of creativity and love among human beings — Indians and foreigners alike.
On future…
Music is a language that everyone understands. Therefore, it serves as the perfect link between India and the world. The chief motto of my life is to share all that I have learnt — with as many people as possible.
