A board official said Bangalore could be an alternative venue, but added any decision to shift the Test would be taken only after consulting the Home Ministry and Hyderabad Police. The consultation could happen on Friday, the official said. “We won’t compromise on the security of the teams. There is a possibility of the match being shifted but a final call will be taken after we consult the ministry,” the official said.
However, the media manager of the Australia side, Matt Cenin, said it was too early to say whether a change of venue was required. “We just heard about the blasts in Hyderabad. It is too early to say whether Australia will play in Hyderabad or not,” Cenin said.
Shivlal Yadav, honorary secretary of the Hyderabad Cricket Association, said he had received no communication from the BCCI yet about a possible change of venue.
On Thursday, following a nationwide alert, security was beefed up at the Chennai hotel where the teams are staying.
