SummaryPink slip: Layoff reports are doing the rounds at global IT firms' India units.

Even as Indian tech companies have sent out positive signals on hiring this year, several multi-national tech companies in India are in hiring-freeze mode, while also letting go of employees in sizable numbers or repatriating them into divisions that are not being shut down.

On Wednesday, news emerged from global IT giant IBM of several hundred jobs being cut at its India centres in the last few days. Several posts at Alliance@IBM — a global union website for IBM employees — reported “a massive layoff at IBM India in Bangalore”.
