Though the business of 'Krrish 3' was affected due to the pre-Diwali festivities, the overall total was astounding.

The action movie collected Rs 72.8 cr net in its opening weekend with Rs 25.5 crore on Friday, Rs 23 crore on Saturday and Rs 24.3 crore on Sunday. The total is inclusive of Hindi, Tamil and Telugu versions.

Krrish 3 is now among the all time top opening weekend grossing movies in Bollywood, which is headed by 'Chennai Express' with Rs 100.42 crore.

As per KPMG India estimates, the domestic box office collections, valued at Rs 8,000 crore in 2012, have been growing over 20% the past two years and could yield Rs 14,200 crore value potential by 2017.

Though still heavily under-screened, the domestic theatrical market is paused for major expansion as cinema chains look at scaling up presence. The overall film industry revenues also grew from Rs 9,290 crore in 2011 to Rs 11,240 crore in 2012, representing a y-o-y increase of about 20%, and are expected to touch Rs 20,000 crore revenues by 2017.
