While working as Joint Secretary, official language, GOI(99-2006),I used to make public statements in regional conferences held in north, south, east and west annually that all TV channels will have to come in Hindi and other indian languages. They gradually moved from english to Hindi, including films. But content-wise gaps have yet to be filled.Hindi viewers have been treated as mere "market". There will be ready viewership for any channel coming up with well researched content. There are 4 highly popular channels providing rich content in extremely excellent language. In fact, the Hindi of other channels leaves the impression of a language divide like the digital divide! The channel vying for Hindi space has to guard against monopoly of the outdated and look for modern, well informed, global outlook content providers and anchors.Simultaneously, language development will also be its responsibility, for entries in a Hindi dictionary remain below 2 lakhs presently!

We all thought that your correct designation was Joint Secretary, official Languages and not joint secretary, official language. After reading your comment here, it appears that you were acting and thinking more like a Hindi officer and not an official connected with Official Languages Dept, GOI
