High security number plates left to rust, over 10,000 commercial vehicles ply without them

have around 10,000 high security number plates for commercial vehicles lying with us,’’ Kapoor said.

The Transport department had brought out a notice in October 2012, fixing the responsibility on dealers for delivering vehicles only after getting the HRSP. Those found violating these orders were to be suspended or their trade certificates revoked. But the department is yet to take action against erring dealers. Sources said complaints had been received but no action against dealers has been initiated.

“We have asked the traffic police to prosecute those found driving vehicles without HSRP after April. Action against dealers will be taken after that,” a Transport department official said.
