High security number plates left to rust, over 10,000 commercial vehicles ply without them
According to information received by Rosmerta Technologies, the company responsible for fitting these plates across all RTOs in Delhi, around 3,545 auto-rickshaws, 4,521 taxis and 1,244 heavy vehicles are plying without secure number plates.
These plates are supposed to keep a digital track of new vehicles on Delhi roads. According to orders passed by the Transport department, all new vehicles that were registered in Delhi after April 30, 2012, including commercial vehicles will have to get secure number plates instead of the ordinary ones.
“The automobile dealers in Delhi have been delivering vehicles, particularly commercial vehicles, to customers without affixing HSRP. The dealers are committing grave violation by affixing ordinary number plates on commercial vehicles at the time of delivery. While such dealers are charging the customers for HSRP, they are not sending the customers to HSRP centres and our centres have not been contacted to get the HSRP affixed before delivery of commercial vehicles,’’ Rosmerta Technologies managing director U R Kapoor said.
According to Rosmerta, many customers coming to HSRP centres have given complaints in writing that their dealers have delivered vehicles without HSRP, and, in many cases, delivery of the vehicle is being made with ordinary number plates affixed on them. “We
