Kolkata, Jun 17 : HCMI Education Pte Ltd is offering a MBBS course for Indian students in medical universities of the Philippines. The course fee is around Rs 4.25 lakh per year, which includes tution fees plus lodging and boarding in a room on twin sharing basis.

Baljit Singh, managing director of HCMI Education, said more than 100 Indian students across 18 states have gone to the Phillipines to undertake the course. "Students enrolled in HCMI medical colleges/institutions in the Philippines and who desire to return to India after graduation will receive assitance to obtain eligibility certificates from the Medical Council of India."

"The cost of the course spread over four-and-a-half years is less than that of private medical colleges in India," said Singh. According to him, 36 and 14 students from north east India and West Bengal, respectively, have enrolled.

MBBS is not a primary medical education of philippines and hence those who undergo this program will not be allowed to write the screening test of MCI
