HCL chairman Shiv Nadar today met Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and proposed to develop a 10, 000-seat IT delivery centre, preferably near the Yamuna Expressway, or on sites of the UP State Industrial Development Corporation (UPSIDC).

Nadar and his team made a presentation of their plans for promoting IT in the state before the Chief Minister.

Sources said the team discussed the requirement of a minimum of 100 acres at two locations at attractive rates in UPSIDC area, or on the Yamuna Expressway for the IT delivery centre, which is proposed to have capacity to train 20,000 interns over a 10-year period.

Regarding its benefits for the UP government, the HCL team said that the centre will create 10,000 jobs per location and HCL itself will ensure absorption of 70 per cent interns. They said the project will create employability for youth, increase investment and FDI inflows in the state, and a world- class residential township-cum-SEZ. Nadar said training centres could become engines of growth contributing to the state GDP.

Sources said that Nadarís team had sought support from the UP government for land at two locations, loan for infrastructure creation at concessional terms, joint student certification by the UP government and HCL, internship loan scheme, SEZ status for both the locations, development of ecosystem around the identified land parcels and uninterrupted electricity supply.
