HC to BMC: Frame noise rules for constructions

A division bench of justices Mohit Shah and Anoop Mohta said decibel levels were very high during such activities.

HC was hearing a bunch of PILs seeking strict implementation of noise pollution control rules, especially in silence zones.

BMC told the court the only restriction it imposed at present on construction activities was of time and the issue of framing regulations would have to be placed before its improvement committee.

HC also suggested a committee be set up to hear and decide applications for permission to hold religious or political rallies in silence zones. The court said it received a number of such petitions after denial of permission for rallies by police and BMC.

The court said the committee comprising employees of different government and BMC departments should look into the issue of noise pollution and whether or not permission should be granted to organisers of cultural events and the conditions.
