HC seeks CBI response on court chambers
During the resumed hearing of the case, the CBI counsel informed the court that Chandigarh Police could investigate the matter and it can also create an SIT to look into the allegations.
Moreover, an application asking the court to make 42 lawyers party in the case also came before the court.
The construction committee, which was set up by the lawyers of the District Bar Association (DBA), which has invested in the construction of the chambers in the district court complex for them, had filed a petition in the High Court seeking a CBI inquiry.
Allegations were made that the total contract money was Rs 13.30 crore, while the amount paid till date to the contractor is Rs 14.60 crore. As such, an excess payment of Rs 1.30 crore was made, while 40 per cent of the work was yet to be completed.
