The Calcutta High Court Monday rejected the bail plea of Ashwini Chalak, Nabagopal Sanki and Suvendu Mondal, who were arrested by the CBI in connection with the Netai killings in Junglemahal, January 2011.
A counsel of the three accused pleaded that they were in jail custody for more than two-and-a-half years but the trial of the case has not yet started and, therefore, the High Court should grant their bail plea.
Opposing the plea, advocate Himangsu De, counsel of the CBI, said the hearing
for the framing of charges would be held at Midnapore court on July 17. The evidence may be tampered with if the court granted them bail. Following this, the Division Bench headed by Justice Jayanta Kumar Biswash rejected the bail plea of the three accused.
The incident pertains to the killing of nine persons on January 7. As many as 28 persons were injured in the violence.
