Hathway Cable and Datacom today said it has joined hands with other cable players (MSOs), including SITI Digital, INCablenet, DigiCable and DEN to offer digital cable services for Rs 799.

The multi system operators (MSOs) will offer digital cable services at installation prices of Rs 799, which is exclusive of taxes until September 30, 2012 in the four metros, the company said in a statement.

According to the law enacted by Parliament, over 12 million homes with television in metros have to move to digital signals by October 31, this year.

The I&B Ministry has launched the ambitious task of completing digital switchover of the existing analogue cable TV in the country in a phased and time-bound manner by December 31, 2014.

"We are committed to ensuring timely implementation of the government mandate of digitisation of cable TV services and have therefore launched this service along with our MSO counterparts. Through this, we look to continue working towards mass digitisation of cable and collectively meet the October 31, 2012 deadline," Hathway Cable and Datacom MD and CEO K Jayaraman said.

The service will be provided through the local cable operators. After September 30, 2012, the services will be available for Rs 999.

Besides, DTH player Tata Sky also announced a special promotion to encourage more people to switch to its services before the final dateline.

Tata Sky's special promotional offer would include a Tata Sky standard definition box and installation for Rs 1,390.

"To show our complete support towards the digitisation initiative, Tata Sky is taking a price drop of Rs 200 to make DTH even more affordable for consumers," Tata Sky Managing Director and CEO Harit Nagpal said.

Tata Sky, a joint venture between Tata Group and Star Group is available in about 15,000 towns.

"We are confident that this pricing will catapult the process of digitisation across the country and will help boost the government's efforts to digitise India on the set deadline," Nagpal added.
