Haryana minister calls for social boycott of those who commit crimes against women

While expressing concern over the declining sex ratio in the state, the Haryana Women and Child Development Minister Geeta Bhukkal advocated social boycott of those who indulge in crimes against women.

Speaking at a state-level function to mark National Girl Child Day here on Thursday, Bhukkal said a concerned government had introduced a number of steps to tackle the declining sex ratio in Haryana. Among them, she highlighted the Ladli scheme under which free eduction is provided to girls and a subsidy is granted on educational loans for them.

She added that the government has cracked down on doctors aiding female foeticide by sealing clinics that break the rules. “ The state government has taken concrete steps against the incidents of crime against women. Apart from launching of the 1091 helpline number for women, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has directed the home department to ensure prompt action in cases of crime against women,” Bhukkal added.

As part of the National Girl Child Day celebrations, 29 girl students were honoured for their outstanding achievements in various fields at the state-level function. Among those present at the function was principal secretary, woman and child development department, Dheera Khandelwal.
