The Haryana government is finally set to install close circuit television (CCTV) cameras in all the 18 jails across the state. Though the proposal was originally mooted in 2010, it was gathering dust and has now only reached the pre-bid stages. Haryana’s Electronic Development and Corporation is executing the project.
“The project of installing CCTVs in all jails is on track. The project, which is at the pre-bid stage, will not only help us keep a watch on the inmates, but we will also be able to nail the jail staff who collude with the inmates,” Home Secretary Samir Mathur said.
CCTVs cameras will be placed at the barracks, prisons’ gate, meeting rooms, strategic points along the boundary wall, etc.
