Haryana introduces string of measures to keep women safe

In wake of the increasing incidents of rapes and sexual assault on women in the state, the Haryana government Monday introduced a string of measures to ensure safety and security of women. Among others, the state proposes to set up women police stations, helpline numbers and deputing women police officers of the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police as nodal officers for investigating crimes against women.

The Haryana Cabinet, which met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, condemned the recent incidents of crime against women and passed a resolution expressing “heartfelt sympathies” with the victims of such crimes and their families.

“The Council of Ministers condemns such acts of barbaric insensitivity and violation of human dignity. We resolve to bring the perpetrators of such heinous crimes to quick justice. Directions have been issued to the police to file chargesheets in the court within 30 days”, Hooda said after the meeting.

Chief Secretary, PK Chaudhery said, “An Additional Director General of Police has been appointed to exclusively supervise the measures taken to check crime against women. The investigating officers have been told to arrest the accused persons within 24 hours of registering an FIR.”
