Haryana, a state often in the eye of a storm over jobs
The JBT teachers recruitment scam under which 3,206 teachers were hired allegedly earned Rs 3-4 lakh per candidate for the brains behind the conspiracy. So it came as little surprise that after the Chautalas were tainted by the corruption scandal, they attacked their opponents, reminding them of job scams under their watch instead of building a strong defence in the JBT case.
Last year, there was a political storm after the Punjab and Haryana High Court quashed the recruitment of 1,983 physical training instructors. Their recruitment had been done by the Haryana Staff Selection Commission in 2009 when Bhupinder Singh Hooda was the chief minister. The high court observed that the selections were not done in accordance with the law.
Another JBT teachers scandal hit the government and the selection of 9,000 teachers came under the scanner of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 2011. Inquiries revealed that there had been large-scale impersonation, forgery and cheating by candidates during the examination. The case is still being probed.
The Chautalas are also facing the heat in the recruitment of HCS officers. The CBI has recommended registration of cases against Chautala and several former officers for recommending ineligible officials to the Haryana Civil Services. The case is pending in the Supreme Court.
In another instance, the Punjab and Haryana High Court quashed the selection of 2,000 patwaris
