Gurgaon likely site for BMW India plant

German car maker BMW has selected Gurgaon in Haryana as one of the possible sites for locating its proposed plant in India.

This was revealed in a meeting, which Haryana chief minister Om Prakash Chautala had with top BMW executives during his visit to the corporate headquarters at Munich in Germany, an official release said here.

The chief minister hoped that BMW would set up its plant in India and strengthen its 500-year-old economic ties with India.

Mr Chautala dwelled upon the special advantages that Haryana offered to the automobile industry and pointed out that the state was manufacturing 60% of all the cars, 50% of all the tractors, and 60% of all the motorcycles produced in India.
