More than a month after he was booked on charges of dowry death, the Gurgaon Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Ravneet Garg has been transferred to Jagadhri. His transfer orders were issued by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday.

Garg has been posted as secretary, Legal Services, Jagadhri. The CJM was booked after his wife, Geetanjali’s, body was found with four bullet injuries inside the Police Lines compound in Gurgaon on July 17. While police initially claimed that it was suicide, Geetanjali’s family alleged that she had been murdered. Four days after the incident, a case of murder was lodged and sections relating to dowry death were added three days later. The case is being investigated by the CBI.

Geetanjali’s family has approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court, seeking Garg’s suspension, pending investigation. The family had said that as long as Garg was CJM, there was little chance of an unbiased investigation. Garg has been transferred along with other judges of Punjab and Haryana.

The high court has promoted and transferred 160 sub-judges of Punjab and Haryana lower courts. Of the total, 90 sub judges from Punjab have been promoted and transferred while 70 from Haryana stand transferred.

Seven sub judges of Chandigarh have been transferred. They will be replaced by judges from Punjab and Haryana. Three judges of Panchkula lower court have also been transferred.
