Gupshup Technologies unveils chat app compatible with mobile, web devices - Blackberry, Nokia's S40
The application, which combines both public and private messaging in one place, works on android, iOS, Blackberry and Nokia's S40 platforms.
"The app enables GupShup users to now send and receive messages from every mobile and web devices. Smart phone users send/receive messages using data channel, while feature phone users can do the same through SMS," Gupshup Co-founder and CEO Beerud Sheth told reporters here.
If the message recipient does not have the GupShup app, then GupShup will deliver a text message to them free of cost, Sheth added.
"That apart, the messenger includes combining private and public messaging in a single app, which allows users to seamlessly switch and share messages with friends and followers," he said.
On the the uniqueness of the messenger in terms of covering both smart phones and feature phones, Sheth said emerging markets like India and Indonesia have many feature phone users even as smart phone adoption is growing. Services like GupShup are well suited to the needs of emerging markets.
"It is important that a product like ours is inclusive," he added.
The GupShup service is used by over 65 million users. It also provides mobile marketing and engagement solutions that enables business to interact with consumers.
The company is also trying develop the GupShup messenger to work on Windows Mobile platform.
