



Ahmedabad: The Centre is considering to allot second ultra mega power plant (UMPP) to Gujarat where Tatas are already building a 4,000-mw UMPP at Mundra in Kutch.
The state government has given a list of sites in Porbandar, Kutch, Morbi and Chhara in south Gujarat for second UMPP, minister of state for power Bharat Solanki said.
The power ministry has asked for more details regarding the locations identified by the state government. Tata power is building a UMPP at Mundra at a cost of around Rs 20,000 crore and Gujarat will get 1,900 out of the 4,000-mw power at Rs 2.26 per unit from the UMPP, Solanki said.
Besides second UMPP, the Centre has also cleared the proposal for setting up a 6,000 mw atomic power plant at Mithi Virdi in Bhavnagar district where investment of Rs 60,000 crore will be made. The Centre has also approved capacity addition of 1,400 mw at Kakrapar Atomic Power plant in south Gujarat , he said. National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the state government for setting up two 50 mw units of solar energy plants in Kutch and Banaskantha district in the state.
