Finance Minister Nitin Patel, perhaps for the first time, felt he is actually number two in the Narendra Modi government when he got his first chance to chair cabinet meeting on Wednesday, when Modi was down with a tooth ache. In the past 12 years of Modi’s rule, no cabinet meet has happened in his absence. A senior minister was quick to quip, “Seems our boss now wants to get used to his government functioning in his absence since he is going to get busier in the coming day owing to new national-level responsibilities in run-up to 2014 Lok Sabha elections.”
Empty Climate Change Dept
State’s Climate Change Department, only one of its kind in Asia, has got its own office in Block-11 of secretariat for two years now. But most of the time, it wears a deserted look. Principal secretary of the department, Rajiv Kumar Gupta, sits in WASMO office (he holds the Wasmo charge as well), while deputy secretary Pradeep Singh is on a long leave, away in Germany. With the two top bosses not in office, visitors end up waiting for an hour or two to spot an employee in the nine cabins and other sections that form the department. Seems CM Narendra Modi, who holds the climate change portfolio, needs to visit it once to take stock of the situation.
WhatsApp Fever grips police officers
The WhatsApp fever has gripped IPS officers in the state who are often seen either fiddling with their phones or sending messages to their “friends” on WhatsApp messenger.
This has prompted the police brass to pass instructions, albeit verbal, down the ranks, asking all to use only personal mobile numbers for social networking. This is worrying for many who use their official numbers for WhatsApp messages and social networking. Several police officers are also contemplating deleting WhatsApp before they are caught “chit-chatting”.
