SummaryThe state government owned gas distribution company Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) announced a hike in gas prices for domestic, industrial and CNG consumers

The state government owned gas distribution company Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) announced a hike in gas prices for domestic, industrial and CNG consumers, to be effective from Wednesday.

The hike is attributed to reasons like costly imported LNG (liquefied natural gas), non-supply of cheaper domestic gas to the state by the Centre and global gas prices making imported gas expensive.

A GSPC statement Tuesday said, ďDespite several representations made by Gujarat Government and attempts from our end, there has been no move to allocate cheaper domestic gas by the Central Government. The company has to rely on expensive imported natural gas.Ē

After the hike, CNG (compressed natural gas) price stands at Rs 62.15 per kilogram (including taxes) from the earlier rate of Rs 60.15. For domestic and industrial use, the price of PNG (piped natural gas) has been revised from Rs 21.50 (not including taxes) per SCM (Standard Cubic Metre) to a bi-monthly gas slab of Rs 25.50 for the first 30 SCM, Rs 34.10 for the gas slab of 31 to 40 SCM and Rs 40 for a slab of 41 SCM and above.
