Luck-hunter

Atul Chaturvedi has taken over as chairman of the Public Enterprises Selection Board, and it is hoped that he would quicken the process of filling vacancies in central public sector enterprises. But the head-hunter's pace is inevitably tied on the time taken by the Central Vigilance Commission, administrative ministries and the Prime Minister's office in clearing the appointments. Chaturvedi, a 1974 batch IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre with wide-ranging experience, needs luck more than experience to make a difference to the job.

In waiting lounge

National Building Constructions Corporation is waiting for a new director finance. SK Pal, currently general manager in Ircon, has been selected for the job, but his appointment is yet to be cleared by the appointment committee of the Cabinet. In the meantime, the post remains vacant. We hope the wait ends soon.
